I fell into ESL after volunteering at a local Learning Centre. When they wanted to begin an evening class the principal asked me if I was interested in teaching the class and so I did, and then replaced the day teacher when she retired. So it was not my first career! I have carte blanche where I work and have been able to start a number of classes including an ESL Cooking group. And of course I have been able to work with an international group of students who are bravely embarking on life in a new country. It has been a fascinating journey and I learn something new everyday.(as I hope the students do too.)

Hobbies & Interests
I love teaching ESL!
I love travelling. My latest obsession is learning to sail on my not-yacht on a lake near home and I have taken up skiing again after many years. I play tennis in the summer and dance in the winter. I play the violin. I get accused of spending too much time developing new ESL materials.

Teaching & Education
Education Background
I started out in Sciences at the University of Western Ontario, but after a year I moved to Toronto to study Health Record Administration (I needed a good job!) I started studying Linguistics at University of Toronto part-time, but never finished because I moved to France with my husband. When I started raising children, I went into catering with my sister who is a chef and then started working as a Pastry Chef and running my own business. I started looking around for something new after a few years and got into the ESL business with the intention of working overseas, but getting work in Canada to my surprise. I like to reinvent my working life every so often.

Life Philosophy
There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.
