Hehehehe.
I just read the "I'm fine, thank you" thread. It isn't just me!
Anywho, one thing i've noticed is the mix and match of questions and answers. Sometimes when askings kids "How old are you?" I get the response: "I'm fine, thank you". Even when I ask again, slower, I often get the same response. doh:
What other mix and match structures have you heard?
btw the way I'm teaching in China.:
i hear:
What's your name?
I'm 8 years old.
Teacher: What's your favourite fruit?
Student: MEAT!
Teacher: No, no. What's your favourite fruit?
Student: oh, fruit. Uh apples....
The almost fell off his chair when he said "MEAT!"
I sometimes get
Mark: How are you?
S: I'm 8.
I used to get this with China students who over-prepared for their IELTS speaking test.
i heard this one:
what's your favourite sport?
flower
This from a Chinese student: ' My favourite sports are volleyball, basketball and vegetable' !!
i got this on the sunday just past:
what colour is it? strawberry
I write all the good ones down in the text book.
My favourite, and I swear this is true, was from English File 2. The question was 'Which singer played in goal for Real Madrid?'
My student shot her hand up and, unfortunately for her, in front of a full class, she blurted out 'Mariah Carey!'
Of course, for all you fans of Latin crooners, it was Anna Kournikova's father-in-law, Julio Iglesias.
