Adult EFL Class (Chess Class)

Posted by Whistleblower · January 10, 2008 · 1 replies

Hello.

I have been asked to make a lesson but use Chess sets for my adult students. It should be interesting and am planning the lesson but I would like to know if others have tried an English fun activity using Chess as a game.

So far I have thought of using a competition format so the winner wins a prize, some chess puzzles and perhaps myself against all of the students.

What do you think? If you have any ideas for Chess to use in the lesson please let me know as it would be highly appreciated.

You could tweak the chess rules a little bit.

1. You could have different level of questions (1-10).
2. The student gets to pick the question based upon which chess piece they want to move (pawns = 1-2, knights = 3, etc)
3. If they can answer it, they can move that piece. If they can't answer it, the other team can steal the turn by answering it correctly.
4. If both teams answer incorrectly, the question level drops down one and the opportunity goes back to the original team.

Just a thought...
