Qualifications

Posted by FionaVB · August 3, 2009 · 2 replies

My husband and I are really happy teaching here in Vietnam, but in a few years we would expect to move on. Japan is our next country of choice, but in idle moments, looking for positions for couples, most ads ask for a degree as a qualification. I have a BA, but my husband doesn't. Can anyone tell me if all Japanese school insist on a degree, or can several years of actual EFL teaching experience replace that requirement?
Thanks.

I've heard that ESL jobs in Japan require a BA degree for work visa processing.
Not sure if the years of experience can make up for it. I know Japan and S.Korea are quite tight on the visa applications.

As bad as it may sound, most Asian places (e.g. Japan, Korea, China) do require degrees.
