Looking for Ideas

Posted by vicaitor · October 30, 2008 · 2 replies

I am currently volunteering once a week to teach English to Blind children in China. I teach four groups; two per week. The range is quite vast as my youngest group does not even speak Mandarin Chinese 🙂 I would like any ideas on games/activities to play that do not require sight or much running around as we do not have much space in the classroom. I do sing many songs and they are good; but for me perhaps a little monotonous. 😃

what about listing words that begin with different sounds?

'b' - ball, balloon, bell ...

Then they have to make a sentence or talk about one of the items.

wow...I honestly give you respect for volunteering for this kind of job, as its nice to give blind kids and equal opportunity to learn English, as well as being a challenge to yourself as a teacher.

The only idea i can really think of is perhaps to let them use touch as an aid. You could bring in some items such as pens, teddy bears, ball, keys ect, teach the vocabulary and then let them touch each object and try to guess what it is.
