Default romeo and juliet - simple version to use in TEFL class?

Hello
I teach a group of sixteen year old girls who are at beginner-elementary level. They want to read Romeo and Juliet and I would love to do a whole project around the story culminating in getting them to perform an adapted version of the story. I haven't done anything like this before and am wondering how to start. Firstly, how to get a version of the story that TEFL beginners could read -any pointers gratefully received.
Thanks
Laura

That seems quite difficult for them even if you simplify the English, mostly because it would be really long (even if shortened).

How about something shorter? like a single scene or a few scenes from Harry Potter or High School Musical?

Where are you teaching?

I'm sure you are right. I guess I can do some lessons around a synopsis of the story and get them to do a play around it.
Highschool musical/ Harry Potter are good suggestions also, thanks.

I am teaching at a childrens home in sri lanka btw...

any particular tips on bringing in something like highschool m or harry p into a lesson. i'm new to teaching and haven't done anything story/drama linked before... many thanks

Sorry, gotta run to work but here are a couple ideas:
MES-English.com :: View topic - Describe the Scene: past tense practice

MES-English.com :: View topic - Season 3 - the MES English curriculum for young learners
In this podcast there is a game of the week. This episode's game is called 'dubbing movies'. It's an activity I've been doing with some of my high school students recently.

It's very challenging even when you get a simplified version of those classic works.
