Default New To ESL!

Hello Everyone,

I was just appointed an ESL pull out position in a K-5 setting. I am starting my planning and I am overwhelmed. So far I made a lesson plan on rules/classroom commands which incorporated pictures.

Where do i go from here? What icebreaker/ introductory writing lessons should I work on?

Is there a certain order to teach grammar in? (especially in the lower grades? How can I teach phoncis through content?

Thanks!

Hi and welcome to eslHQ!

Are you working with a textbook? If not, I would suggest getting one that is appropriate for your level. Having a textbook will help guide you through the proper steps and stages of 'what to do next'. Good books will have phonics lessons accompanied with appropriate writing/grammar lessons and in-class activities.

In the past, I always used the Let's Go series. It comes with a comprehensive Teacher's book loaded with activities, flashcards, song books and plenty more.

Getting a textbook will be the best way to help you plan your lessons and guide you and your students to the next level.

Hi

I am soon to pass my TEFL course and be trained as a secondary school teacher in the UK.
I am going to be moving to Normandy shortly and was wondering if anyone knew whether it is easy to find a job teaching English there?

Thanks

Going beyond picture dictionaries and collages, I would have students write about photographs and ads from magazines. I also like to distribute postcards and have students write short notes and send them. School children could send their parents, uncles, and cousins postcards as a writing exercise. It's both doable and fun.
As for the cost, I've always considered it a smart investment.
Good luck! Have fun - and keep your balance with all those energetic children.
