Many Asian countries such as Thailand, Phillipinese, Vietnam and of course China (although it is getting tougher and tougher finding good placements in Beijing and Shanghai due to the competitive nature of the business) still have high demand for English teachers. Certainly however where I am in Japan the shine has certainly gone out of the industry at the moment due to many factors including the economy.
Having said that I work as an ALT for a dispatch agency so I am pretty much on the lowest rung of the food chain...The wages are awful and the treatment from the employer and many of the schools (where English is often seen as a nuisance) is often unbelievable. |
