Default English jobs dwindling?

Considering all that is happening in today's economy, do you think that English jobs in Asia are starting to decline? Just a few years ago (2 to 3 to be exact), there were a plethora of jobs. Now, it seems as though there aren't as many.

It's hard to say but the basic need for people in Asia to improve their English remains. I'm on holiday in Thailand this week and communication is a major issue even in the most tourist-oriented areas.

Many Asian countries such as Thailand, Phillipinese, Vietnam and of course China (although it is getting tougher and tougher finding good placements in Beijing and Shanghai due to the competitive nature of the business) still have high demand for English teachers. Certainly however where I am in Japan the shine has certainly gone out of the industry at the moment due to many factors including the economy.

Having said that I work as an ALT for a dispatch agency so I am pretty much on the lowest rung of the food chain...The wages are awful and the treatment from the employer and many of the schools (where English is often seen as a nuisance) is often unbelievable.
