do you like squid? I just found myself sitting here at the computer eating O-Jing-Uh Dang-Kong-Bolls (Squid/Peanut Balls). quite a bizarre and not-so-bad of a snack. then i started thinking about when i first came to korea. i never ate any squid. it all started with steamed squid. then some grilled buttered squid. then the flat dried squid that you can buy plastic wrapped in the supermarket. this usually comes with red pepper paste or mayonaise! finally, i was ordering the rip-your-teeth-out-tough dried squid at the bar. I've come along way. how about you? |
I think the dried stuff is vile ,stinks too. Nok-ji(small octopus) is much better. I like it served raw and still moving |

Its really no big deal. Most of the raw fish in Korea is quite bland if anything you just taste the gochuzang or Wasabi soy sauce. Fish gets its distinctly fishy taste from being cooked. I'm not a big fan of seafood but I like sushi and Sashimi especially tuna. |
Squid gets my vote Quote:
Oh, I'd rather starve than eat anything that is alive. |

You know you've been in Korea too long when Liking the smell of dried squid in the cinema would definatly qualify Have you been to Ulleongdo island yet Its famous for squid. |
Yes, maybe you're right. Maybe liking squid-smell is a sign... But no, I haven't been to Ulleungdo. Actually, I can't remember where Ulleugdo is. Whick port city will take you there? Did you try the squid there, fresher smell perhaps, or do you stay away from it completely? It grows on you little by little, one leg at a time, you know ;) |
I've had squid in Mule Hui, Water Sashimi. This is similar to Mule Namyeong except instead of using noodles they use raw squid. This isn't bad and much better than the dried stuff. Ulleoungdo is near Pohang. This is an odd steal town seaside resort. Basically one of the few places in Korea where there is a sandy beach. Most of them are either stone or mud. If you go to the beach in Pohang you can lie on the beach and have a nice view of the Blast furnaces on the steel factory on the other side of the beach. |
