Team Spelling This is a spelling game and can be used to review the Jr High Text book.
Prepare small pieces of paper before class(using the recycled paper cut into four works great and you will need alot) and have enough markers for each student. In class, hand out 6-10 pieces of paper(depending on how many words you are going to do) and 1 marker per student.
Divide the students into teams by using the lines. For example, the first person in each row is Team 1. The second person is Team 2 and so on. Depending on the class, there should be 5-7 team members. The amount of team members determines how long the words are. Say you have 6 students, your word will be 6 letters.
Call out a 6 letter word that they have learned from the text book and starting from the left(this is so you can read the word when they are finished), the student will write their letter on the paper. Give them about 10 seconds. When time is up, have them hold up their letter. If a student is too slow in holding up their letter, that team can not receive points(your choice on this rule, but sometimes they try to cheat but holding up their letter last) Give a point to the team that has the correct spelling!
***** Important Rule***** The students Can Not talk to each other to figure out what letter they have to write!!! |
