Living in Korea Eligibility A citizen of one of the seven countries: Australia, New Zealand, USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, and South Africa Bachelor’s degree Clean criminal record One of the following: - TEFL, TESOL, or CELTA Certificate of minimum 100 hours - Degree in English Literature, English Language, or Linguistics - Teaching Certificate or License Conditions One-year contract Teachers work Monday through Friday, 8 hours per week. Hours are usually 8:30am – 4:30pm or 9:00am – 5:00pm. Salary 2.0 ~ 2.5 million won/month Benefits - 300,000 won settlement allowance - Round-trip airfare - Airport pickup - Paid overtime - Severance pay of one month salary - Rural area: additional allowance of 100,000 won per month - 20 paid vacations in addition to all Korean national holidays - 50% of medical insurance (4.8%; teachers pay 2.4%) and 50% of national pension (9%; teachers pay 4.5%; US and Canadian citizens reimbursed at the end of the contract; South African citizens are exempt from joining pension) - Full-furnished single housing or housing allowance of 400,000 won per month - There is no tax for the first two years of employment in Korea (with the exception of Canadian citizens).
