For sure I think there's no perfect textbook, they all have strengths and weaknesses but for me I like the Headway series. It's meaty and easily developed for greater application and extension.

I guess that if you're presenting basic food items your students must be at a lower level.
Eliciting vocabulary meaning is an acceptable way of presenting vocab. but at a lower level...
