I'm coming to the end of the adult courses at school and would like to do some different activities for the last lesson. I usually bring in a bottle of wine, some snacks and prepare some games. The wine and snacks are already in the cupboard, it's the games that are giving me a headache. Some of these students have been with me for quite a few years so I'd like to some something different \ out of the ordinary.

Has anyone got any suggestions?

How about a murder mystery game where students have to work out who dunnit? You could either have clues that led them all round the school or confine it to the classroom as necessary. if you type murder mystery games free into Google you'll find lots of examples which you can adapt logistically and linguistically as necessary. And there could be a prize for the winners.

I love the murder mystery idea! Unfortunately, with 50 students per class, I don't know if I could pull that off.

One game that I've used with adult students is "I've never..." Basically, students take turns coming up with true statements beginning with the phrase "I've never" and they get points based on the number of students who HAVE done that thing. So the idea is to come up with something you haven't done that most people have done. For example, a good one for me (before I came to China, anyways) was "I've never gone skiing."

It's also a nice way to practice present perfect.

I'm not sure what to do with my 50 student classes. I think I'll just cop out and bring the guitar.

The murder mystery is nice but instead of having too many students I've got too few - the beach is just too enticing for them at this stage. I'll keep it as an introductory lesson next year - could work just as well!

The Japanese game seems fun. I'll give it a go.

As for "I've never . . ." we used to play it in Uni as a drinking game. Not sure I could keep a straight face as the memories come flooding back. Those were the days . . . . . :-)


Incidentally, for one class we did 'Who wants to be a millionaire?', which went down well. Just need a good variety of mixed level questions and you're away.

Have you ever tried this one Clive? It's called 'One dream' perfect for adults especially those already working.

You need a nice prize. pick a sum of money; 1million US dollars, RMB, Yen, etc.
Each student has to write on a piece of paper an elaborate plan of what he or she would do with such a sum of money.
They don't have to write their names. But they have to use numbers for names.
Announce the sum of money to them and get them writing. At the end all the papers are collected read out and two persons with the same dream are declared winners and given the prize.
If you have more than two persons with the same dreams you will have to find little differences to eliminate them until you settle on two.
The most exciting experience I had in this game was when a couple ended up as winners. The husband and the wife all had the same dream plan for the money. Everyone clapped for them.
