Visiting Discussion Boards
 

I have found it quite helpful to me to visit certain message boards and seek answers to my questions instead of just looking answers up in a book. Do you guys share this sentiment?

The only problem is that sometimes, people can get a wee bit nasty. This, I know first hand. I guess that's why I like this message board so much; no one, thus far, acts like a child.

I don't know. This is the first board that I've spent a lot of time at. . . and I think that if I started to see the same question every day, it'd drive me crazy. I guess that's why it's netiquette to search the archives first. (Though I've stopped doing that here.)

I guess I'm 50/50. For something I'm new at, I usually google a lot. For something I think I'm knowledgeable about (teaching ESL, for example) I think that my questions are of a 'level' that I can 'burden' my 'peers' with them.

I run a forum and I don't mind the same question that was maybe discussed a year or so ago.

Members change and so do experiences. It's sometimes good to go over things again with just a little twist.

I do know what you mean about people getting nasty on forums, but sometimes it's just not written well. the post or intention isn't to be rude, but that's how it's perceived. and, then sometimes people are just nasty.

Eric has done a good job of keeping this place lively and friendly. It's a great forum.

I agree that re-visiting topics can be a good idea. And, of course, I've posted the same question here more than once (as far as games or so goes) because I think I'll get a new 'crop' of answers.

And, I further agree that a lot of the 'problems' are misunderstandings. I'd hope that in a Forum with a lot of English teachers--even though I'm not a sentence diagramer, I count myself in that category--we'd be able to clearly express ourselves. I don't know, I haven't been offended, yet. (But then, I haven't tried to be funny yet, either. And I know that that's where I--personally--run into the most trouble.)

Have there been negative experiences here?
