Using scrabble tiles Anyone have any ESL games that I could play using scrabble tiles? (Yes, I know I could play Scrabble, wiseguys:rolleyes: ) Any ideas? |
Re: Using scrabble tiles What about a nice swap the tail or the head to make words? For adults you could play the game where you try to make one word into another by trading out one letter at a time. But each move has to make a real word. love -->> hate love - dove - done - dine - mine - Mike - bike - bake - lake - late - hate Doesn't really need to be done with scrabble tiles but it's fun that way. |
Re: Using scrabble tiles You can have some sentences (based on their level) which reviews the target language that they have learned in the class and have them placed in groups. The ones who finish the sentences first get no homework :) |
Re: Using scrabble tiles Mesmark, great tip, I can see that one working.:) Livinginkorea, I don't quite get you. They would use the tiles to make sentences? It seems like they would run out of tiles. |

Also you can make some easy sentences if you want. When one sentence is finished and you have checked it then they can use another. Trust me, it works :becky: |
Re: Using scrabble tiles Here's a game you can play. When I play it, I have a set of cards with letters on them , but Scrabble tiles should work too. Depending on the level of your students, start with either 2 or 3 tiles and place them on a table one at a time. After the tiles are on the table, the first student to think of a word with both/all letters in it will get to take the tiles. The game continues until time or tiles have run out. The person with the most tiles collected wins. For example, if you put down tiles B D L, the students can say badly, bridal, etc. I hope that helps. |
Re: Using scrabble tiles Good one, tmr' |
Re: Using scrabble tiles I didn't expect many replies to this post, but I got some great tips. I've modified my original plans, I'm going to put together some Flash movies (I'm a programmer in my other life) and project some 'scrabble tile' games on the classroom wall. Your ideas will help me out! |

If the students can't make any words just add one tile at a time until they can. |
