I like that idea! I might try it out but just have the students make a word out of the available tiles. So, increase the number of tiles to 7-10 and it becomes more like scrabble. But again the students get to keep the tiles if they can make a word and then just keep adding tiles to the game.

If the students can't make any words just add one tile at a time until they can.

Maybe make teams and the students have to write down the longest word that they see. The team with the longest word gets the tiles. You can time it too. When the time is up then add another letter!
