Teaching ESL to kids, 2 to 3 years old, in Laos Hello, I have just started a teaching job at a school in Laos, teaching kids, 2 to 3 years old, not speaking any English:confused: I don't speak Lao yet so communication is pretty much at 0 ;- P I'm teaching one hour twice a week and would appreciate any help and suggestions you may have in regards to what/how to teach and keep them interested. There are about 20 students. Thank you very much for your help. |
Re: Teaching ESL to kids, 2 to 3 years old, in Laos Sa bai dii, bo? What a great opportunity! I spent a year in Thailand, very near the Laos border (outside of Ubon Ratchathani), living in a village where NOBODY spoke English, so I can appreciate your situation. My best teaching tool then, and now, is music. Kids love it, and if you use songs that have actions or gestures, are simple and have useful language, I find that the students really respond. The company I now work for, Super Simple Learning, based in Tokyo, Japan, is just one place that you can find ESL/EFL music for young learners. Our website is Super Simple Learning. Or visit our YouTube channel for lots of great kids' videos (although I wonder if you have internet access in the classroom? My school only had a very slow connection in the office, so definitely no videos!) Also, we have a teaching tips section with an article you might find helpful: Teaching 2- and 3-Year Olds Best of luck to you!! And if you have any questions, I'm happy to help however I can. My email is sara (at) supersimplelearning.com Cheers, Sara |
Re: Teaching ESL to kids, 2 to 3 years old, in Laos Khoi Sabaidee, khop jai ;-) Thank you for your answer, Sara. I have taken a quick look at your website but will go back once I have more time. It looks great with a wide variety of things to choose from. Best, Rita |
