Default Re: reading

Making reading activities fun and interesting can sometimes be challenging. However, you can make some fun activities out of it easily.

In my reading classes I always follow these steps:

Picture walk: Guide your students to talk about the pictures.
Guided reading: Help your students to read the book/story together.
On your own reading: Students try to read the story by themselves.

Throughout we will do some fun activities like....

Acting out the story

Drawing out the story in a way that's easier to understand. Once finished I will have the students tell me the story in their own words. I draw some fun and interesting pictures for them.

I really recommend having your key sentences and words cut up into cards. You can use cards for so many different game (assembling correct sentences, sentence creation relay races, and more).

I wish you luck!

Also you can find some interesting stories and readings for young kids on my site. It includes printable books and short cartoons for the stories.
