| | Re: thematic unit Instead of building a lesson around a grammar point, you build a lesson around a topic. When you're giving the lesson, any grammar mistakes or misused vocabulary proves less important than understanding and applying the topic.
As Mark has said, a topic on transportation might give students the skills to successfully navigate the public transportation system in England. They would learn phrases for purchasing tickets, finding a station, and perhaps asking for help. The end of the lesson would likely have a role play with one student acting as a tourist there and another the station master or Londoner offering assistance.
