Default Performances/Plays

My teachers are organizing our students to perform The Wizard of Oz for this Friday. This is maybe the third time we have done this, and we have had some success in the past.

My question is if anyone has taken hours out of the day for a period of a week or two to organize performances.

If so, which plays worked best, and what tips do you have? I would like to continue this practice, and I want to maximize the benefit for the students.

Last time, we did King Lear, which was fun because it is about learning English. A Christmas Carol is always fun as well.

Does anyone else have any good ideas like this?

If I may ask what the age and level of the students are? I've run successful drama workshops with ESL students (of all levels and ages) and have a plethora of resources and techniques and procedures available......

At my school we did a simple version of 3 little pigs. It was pretty fun. The young kids really enjoyed it and so did the parents =D

The students were from all my classes, so they were all ages and levels, though everyone is at least 16.

To see a 50 year old Iranian man dressed up like the Wizard was just great...
