Re: need some help, Kindergarten I taught at kindergarten as well...with little kids you have to be a little silly, if you want them to enjoy your class. or maybe you can try being more strict? |
Re: need some help, Kindergarten i am facing the same problem. In the beginning all the students were very attentive but now everything is useless to them. I tried some warm up songs, prizes(cookies, stickers. etc) but all this stuff worked for some days. And i can't strict to them because they are Chinese and i can't speak Chinese. Please give us some good suggestions. |
Re: need some help, Kindergarten I suggest you take a look at this ESL site for kindergarten and 1st graders. Freddie's Ville (English Lessons, Games, Videos, Worksheets, Songs, Apps, For Children) contains Videos, Games, Worksheets, Songs and apps for low levels. |
Re: need some help, Kindergarten Hello there, You have to engage them with interesting games that they can all play together because if you do not have their respect unfortunately they will never behave nicely and wait their turn in a game. Ideas are musical flashcards where all kids move around and jump on the flashcard you name when the music stops. The Big Freeze where kids move slowly while you say different sentences in English and when they hear the word "orange" (or whatever pre-defined word) they FREEZE, and if they make any noise while freezing they are disqualified and have to sit down. Since you don't speak Chinese you will have to demonstrate the game by singing a tune while you walk around then call out a word and jump on the flashcard. The first time you play, play ONLY with words they know really well since you want to teach the concept of the game. Once they have the game concept down you can throw in new vocabulary words, only three at a time or they probably won't cope. Try this story for size - if you have their attention with nice materials that helps: Lesson Plan: https://teachingenglishgames.com/eal...hool-learners/ Story: https://teachingenglishgames.com/english-story/ Song: https://teachingenglishgames.com/fruits-song/ |
Re: need some help, Kindergarten Hello there Teaching English in a kindergarten can be a challenge. I know one teacher in Japan who taught 28 children in one class and had discipline problems. She told me she used had to be very creative in keeping them in a constant surprise. They did not know what would come next. Misbehaving students were excluded from games. She also used short English movies as a reward class for good behavior. Good luck, Ewelina |
