Default Looking for teacher's textbooks

Can anyone recommend a textbook to be used for the beginner level?

I particularly like the Headway series by Oxford. The material works very well, is flexible, yet doesn't jump around from chapter to chapter - something other textbooks have a tendency to do.

A lot of people like Side by Side, too. However, I have a problem with the dialogues and drilling exercises which practice for the sake of practice. They don't feel so real or readily applicable.

Can I ask which nationality of students you'll teach? There are a couple of books which have been written for a specific nationality, or which just work better with native Spanish speakers, or Japanese speakers, etc.

Good luck.

I like Headway as well, but I use Interchange by CUP. It's nicely structure and the layout is clean and easy to look at. Headway seems a little cluttered at times but I think it just takes getting used to.

I like Interchange third edition. New interchange has been updated. It starts at absolute beginners to advanced.
They have so much backup material apart from just the students book.
Worth checking out

Thank you all for your suggestions. I looked them up online. Headway can give me ideas for teaching. Seems like a good site. Interchange may be what I am really looking for but I was unable to actually find out what is inside the books. On Amazon I was able to look inside a student's workbook but not the teacher's edition. I want something with daily lesson plans for teachers and handouts to go with them. I am looking for a basic beginner structure that I can use as a guide and modify as I choose. Can you tell me if the teacher's edition of Interchange has this?

Hi eslHQ,
Yes, the teachers book is great with lots of additional activities that you can photo copy. Games, topic questions and so on.
You can buy the vcd and it also has an activity book to go with it.
There is a workbook as well.
The teachers book is well structured and tells you how to teach the material.

I found this on Amazon. Would this be what I need? They also had a resource book but I would think that this one would be the one with the lesson plans.
Interchange Teacher's Edition 1 (Interchange Third Edition)

Also, will I need to buy the student's book, too? I am not able to buy workbooks to give to each student, I was hoping to find things I could photocopy in the teacher's book and just have them take notes and give handouts.

I am not teaching at a school, I am doing it on my own in Costa Rica and the pay is very low.

I am in the States now, almost finished with an online TEFL course and preparing to go back to Costa Rica in a month. I taught there for three months with no educational background. I am now attempting to better prepare myself to teach again. Any advise would be appreciated.
