Job Interviews in Movies

Hello all,

I have been teaching a new group of adults recently for the past month and have looked at some business English. We started on CV's and interview questions using a range of material (CD, reading, listening etc) but there was a request from a student that they want to learn more about the key language used in interviews. For example, what words are suitable and unsuitable. That is not a problem.

But they want to watch/listen to a natural job interview and I am having trouble trying to find a film that contains a good interview scene. So far the only ideas I have include:

1. The Pursuit of Happiness
2. The Office (UK Version)

Does anyone recommend a movie, drama, etc that would be good to introduce key language used in interviews and improve interview techniques? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Ohh, one more thing I am in Korea and getting some UK/USA dramas are difficult but movies are would suggested would be better.

Many thanks in advance.

Martin

Have you checked out the stuff on You Tube?

Yeah I have but I think that a DVD Movie would be better. The computer terminal that I have doesn't have access to the Internet and so DVD is the only choice I am afraid. So are there any DVD Movies with classic interview scenes?

In that case, you might try:

• Good Will Hunting
• Trainspotting
• The Shining

YouTube is probably the best. What you might want to do is ask your students to help download clips and share those with the class. (Don't forget that our students are usually better than us when it comes to electronic gadgets.) Commercial programs on DVD's or CD's are also available.

Excellent suggestions. I'll take another look at these film scenes for a workplace ESL curriculum. YouTube probably works better as a supplemental exercise. Many of the standard career education DVDs are surprisingly weak. We're lucky to have so many resources.

I am having the same problem and wondering if you ever found anything. I'm looking for examples of good job interviews to show my ESL students in Canada. Many have never been on an interview as they were working in factory and labor type jobs and now are having to change careers and go on interviews. Most of the videos are weak and designed for teens.
