ESL/English language program Hello fellow ESLers! I have been asked to start up an English language program...and I just have absolutely no clue where and how to start. last time I taught English to adults we were using New Headway and New Interchange but this was about 7 years ago :becky: Any suggestions, ideas on this matter?...I am preparing a placement test...but thats about it lol ....so I would appreciate any help. Many thanks in advance! |
Re: ESL/English language program While it would be great to have the time, money, and resources to create a curriculum, I doubt you have any of it. So, I would grab Focus on Grammar and base the curriculum around that. They have everything you need. New Interchange would work as well. If you do have the time and resources to create a curriculum, well that's a whole different question! |
Re: ESL/English language program Thank you for your reply. Yes you are right, I was provided with almost nothing to start with. What about Face2Face? heard good things about this one too but never worked with it. ESLeress |
Re: ESL/English language program What ages and levels are you going to teach? |
Re: ESL/English language program I think that Focus on Grammar is the best as well. Five books together with workbooks, cds and cd-roms. excellent choice esp if u wanna teach english in communication. Grammar Dimensions can work as well. Good Luck! |
Re: ESL/English language program Hey! This time I will be working with ages starting from 18. Their levels are beginners and lower-intermediate and a very few of them are intermediate. ESLeress |
Re: ESL/English language program I have never used Face2Face, so I couldn't say how good it is. Focus on Grammar works well for adults as it is a serious book. I find a lot of the integrated skill books are not serious enough. The other reason FOG is good is that the students can use from the book on their own time without a teacher. The integrated books need a teacher because they don't have good grammar explanations. I use it at my school because when students leave the program they have an excellent resource to take home. |
Re: ESL/English language program I've used FOG a bit with the teacher's at my school for improving their communication skills. It works quite well. We tend to be pretty busy so the interactive CD that comes with each set is quite useful. |
Re: ESL/English language program Alright, so FOG it is!:)...thanks for your help everyone, I will definitely keep you posted on how it went. First need to get a free copy somewhere and convince my supervisor with it. Thank you all. ESLeress |
Re: ESL/English language program Contact Pearson Longman. They will get you a copy if you plan to order some in the future for students. |

Re: ESL/English language program No problem. Did you get in contact with them? |
Re: ESL/English language program There are very good programs in this Skokie English language program school. I suggest you take a closer look at their curriculum. They have several programs: Academic English, Business English etc. I believe you can learn alot for it. |
