It's better to use a CD for dictation rather than speak out the sentences. The goal is not to get them used to your voice, but spoken English in general.

Good luck

I've used dictation a lot of different ways in my lessons, but I'll limit suggestions to two that may prove helpful to you.

One: Depending on the number of sentences given, you can present a short and simple story. Talk about your last vacation, for example, or what you did last Saturday. Because the sentences aren't random, but better mimic real conversation, comprehension is usually a bit higher.

Two: Provide part of the sentence, and dictate the second portion (or vice versa). With part of a sentence, comprehension rises because students have some expectations about what you will say.

Hope this helps.
