Books for 2007

Hi all,

If I made a New Year's Resolution to read at least three TEFL-related books this year, what should I choose?

What kind of books do you want - methodology related or activity based books? Are you interested in teaching garmmar, group work, songs, business English, interaction or all of the above? :)

It does depend on what you're interested in but here are a couple.

Structure of Social Action by Atkinson and Heritage
- This is a little heavy but really says a lot about conversation through conversation analysis and is a nice break away from grammar and structure books.

Principles & Practice in Applied Linguistics, Studies in honour of H.G. Widdowson
- a good overall look at Appilied Linguistics and philosophy behind teaching a language

Douglas Brown's book on "Teaching by Principles" is a good one if you want a general book to start. It's a big book (400 pages plus) but very easy to read.

Here are the books that I bought for my CELTA Course:

1. J. Scrivener: "Learning Teaching", Second Edition. Macmillan.

2. M. Swan: "Pratical English Usage", Third Edition. Oxford.

3. M. Parrott: "Grammer for English Language Teachers; With exercises and a key", Eleventh Printing. Cambridge University Press.

These are great resource books and really good at improving your lessons and how to teach in lessons.

I've got the third one. Haven't used it much yet but at least I can use it when I am stuck on a grammar point. Did you get it in Korea or England? I got it in Kyobo for 28,000 last year. Not bad since it was a lot more expensive on amazon.

I got the books in England from Amazon. There was an offer on Amazon with the books.
