Default Life Is Precious

I just had a hair raising few weeks here as a close friend had a car accident and within 2 days was on a ventilator. It is shocking how things can change for a person in the blink of an eye. We all were so worried we would lose him, and he was of course completely unaware of what was happening to him,
He made an amazing recovery and is now off the ventilator and in a rehabilitation hospital recovering his strength and walking with a walker to gain his full mobility back but it really makes you value the gift of life and good health. We take it for granted so easily.
He is just realizing how ill he was and it has shifted his world view and how mortal he is. What an experience to go through.

I performed in Vancouver last Saturday with my daughter Beth, we sing as Two Tall Women (lol ), and we sang my song 'The Human Spirit' and dedicated it to him
The chorus goes like this

The human spirit is a bird in a cage
The human spirit does not wilt with age
But rises up again like words on a page
The human spirit is the glory and the rage

The human spirit dwells inside you and me
The human spirits burning bright so we see
The human spirit it takes flight to be free
The human spirit it will will it to be
We Will Be Free

Stay well everyone

Very glad to hear that your friend is recovering.
No one ever expects bad things so when they happen and so suddenly it is a real shock and makes you think harder about the life we have. Unfortunately it is always something like a tragedy to make us take stock of life and how easily we could lose it.

As an aside.. I was very sick a couple of years ago and ended up in hospital. When I realised what could have been, that was the wake up call I needed to get a grip on my life and stop wasting time. (That's why I'm now living in overseas and teaching ESL. It was something I had considered on and off but never had to courage to do something about.)

Best wishes to your friend

xxx

I'm glad to hear that your friend is okay now. Must have been so scary. It's true what jen said, we don't want to look back at our lives as something of a waste and must live for the present and not look too much into the future as it might never happen. Thank god I have never been in a serious accident (knocks on wood)

It's very kind of you to take the time to send us that thought.
I hope everything works out OK.

Wow - I could have written that! I guess there's a whole load of us out in ESL land who needed that push. Mine was a crash in a hot air balloon - long story but it's true that your life flashes before your eyes - spooky.

Hey Pam,

I'm very happy to hear your friend is recovering so quickly. That's amazing and awesome!

It's funny how your perspective on life gets completely changed when things like this happen. A trip to the hospital last June made me really start to look at things differently.

Thank you, and everyone else, for sharing your story.

Eric

It's good to know he is doing fine, while I agree with what's been said before I also think that we cannot go through life always thinking about how dangerous things are and how fragile our nature is. We need to take some things for granted because if we didn't we wouldn't be able to even leave our bed.
What's funny is that it always takes a major accident to bring us back to reality.

Luckily I've never been in a situation like that but I'm sure it would shock my world completely.

Thanks everyone for the responses and I think that this is the lesson he has taken from the experience, live life to the full.
There must be a reason he is still here, and like all of you who chose to adventure into unknown territory, it is a good outcome. I really do hold with the everything happens for a reason philosophy.
I wan't trying to say we must live fearfully, expecting the worst. That is not my way of thinking at all.
