Re: Country Mouse or City Mouse?

When I korea first I was in a small town of 30,000 people and after a week I realised that I made a huge mistake. I was so bored, I interacted lots with the people around me but there was nothing much to do except go up the one mountain, go drinking to the 2 good bars. There was a beach nearby but it was too cold in Winter and too hot in Summer so I couldn't go there for long. There was 3 other westerners in the town who I could talk to and there was another bigger town about 30 minutes away but the last bus back was 8.30 in the night. It started to drive me crazy and I worked like crazy to pass the time.

Then I moved to a city which is about 40 minutes from Seoul and I am never bored here. There is so much to do but sometimes I wish that it was a little quieter :)

Grew up in the country and hated the remoteness, the boredom.

Moved to the city for uni and all my working life chose big cities and loved the buzz, the bars, the metro, the entertainment, the variety of food etc etc

Then I had children and now I love the country again.

voted Country!

Grew up in the country myself and hated the boredom.

Moved to the city for uni myself and loved it.

Moved back to the country. Had no children. No husband.

Moved back to the city and feeling alive again:D

Voted City!

Smaller cities are fun for a while. The slower pace of life and the abundant greenery are very comforting. And it’s often much easier to discipline yourself in your own language studies.

But big cities, with all their chaotic energy and variety win out hands down. They are where the real excitement is.

Yes I think the city, the ideal is the country but what I would really love is a backyard or a rooftop garden a little bit of my own green.. I am in a bit of my own concrete jungle, if I left the curtains open 400 of my neighbours could see me go to the toilet.
Where I am ,I see these great flat roofs most of the owners take advantage of that with chickens and vegetables and so on.
