Default the diving ?

Hi everyone!
One of my students has just created a website about under water archeology and asked me to have a look at it and eventually correct his mistakes.
I don't feel it is correct to say : the diving / that diving
( I don't know why!!! ) I 'd say "dive" which is a noun
So I looked up in my dictionary " diving" is a noun
( uncountable) . So if it's like bread , you can say the bread I bought yesterday was stale....
He used " the diving" many times : The first diving...
That diving....
a forty-minute diving ...
Is it correct?
I need your help for further explanations.
Michèle
