Re: Level testing & evaluating adult students Hi Eric; Best wishes from the deep of my heart.Your site is great. I want to improve my speaking, but I don't have a chance to do parctice. How way should I follow? Thank you. Ülkücü,from Turkey |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? Hi Ülkücü, Is there anyone around your town that speaks English? Maybe you could meet for coffee and chat. If not, listening and repeating from cassette tapes can be very helpful. It's not like the real thing but it will improve your pronunciation and confidence. Eric |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? I heard before that people learn their English from the movies and music as well. Music would probably be easier, because you can find the song lyrics online and print them out. Listen and sing along. Lalalalalalalalala! :becky: |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? Hello, What a good question. I think all students of languages ask the same question. The answer is simple, but difficult: you have to speak more. Speak English as often as possible. Practice with native speakers when you have the chance, but also practice with other English students. Maybe you think you don't have the chance to practice, but if you find one other person who wants to practice with you, it will help you. Sorry, but I can't think of any other way. To improve speaking you must speak. Karen |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? I encourage interntionals to use the online Mirriam-Webster Dictionary: http://www.merriam-webster.com/ Download their toolbar so when you come to a new word you aren't sure of pronouncing, you can copy and paste it into the toolbar. Click on the speaker icon to hear the word pronounced. Further, listen to that site's Word for the Wise as you read the short transcript. Practice reading it aloud, then record your voice and compare it with their speaker. You can visit my website: http://www.leslie2k.com and click on links that will apply to your inquiry. Good luck! |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? Hi Ülkücü, I'm going to mention another option for you to speak English more. I recommend using a program called "Skype" (similar to MSN Messenger, but better). It is a computer program that allows you to talk to people all over the world. Once you have this program on your computer, a pair of headphones (or a microphone and speakers), you'll need to get someone to talk to. Here is a website where you can find penpals around the world who are using skype, I would suggest to check it out. As little sage says, the only way to get better at speaking is to actually speak, and this looks like another excellent option for you. Good luck and keep chatting! |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? I agree with mrcards, Skype is a great tool to practice your English with native speakers. Try asking in forums such as this one to see if anyone is interested in meeting you on Skype. You might be surprised. ;) |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? I think that one of the best ways to improve your speaking is practicing with natives speakers and check for movies in English. What usually really helps is to sing lots of songs and to practice a lot. chris ............bye |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? Have you tried an English corner? Basically you get a bunch of English learners (there are usually native English speakers, too) and chat about general topics. It's a great way to practice your English and you can also meet new friends! Good luck! |
Re: How can I improve my speaking? My answer is a little different. Of course you have to speak to improve speaking. BUT... You should read and write as well. I know it sounds strange. But when you read you learn how the words all go together. You learn idioms and phrases. It helps your mind get the order and feel for the language. Writing helps your mind put these new words into practice at a slower speed. Your speed. Speaking can then follow and improve. In my experience, people who read and write learn faster than those who do not. You can find lots of reading at http://www.jamaby.com and writing ... well I think you have the idea.:) |
