Hi agraffka,
Eclecticism ( n )
Eclectic ( Adj) Not following one style or set of ideas but choosing from or using a wide variety.
"She has very eclectic tastes in literature"
first of all go to Wikipedia for details. it explains the origins of the word. Then it depends on the kind of essay you have to write.
When i was a student we used to write introduction, 2 paragraphs with examples and a conclusion.
Good luck

Hi Agraffka,
If you have to relate eclecticism to teaching, then what you probably need to be writing about is how to follow an approach which combines elements from a number of different methodologies, rather than just following one, choosing from them depending on the teaching situation , student needs etc.
This is a list of Google links which are relevant, and you could see also the podcast I did for Mark and Eric's ESL Teacher Talk
