Cakecrumbs, cake-crumbs or cake crumbs? Hi everyone, I can't seem to figure out the correct form: cakecrumbs, cake-crumbs or cake crumbs? I think cakecrumbs and cake crumbs are both interchangeable - is this correct? Is it only a matter of style or a geographical variation? Would cake-crumbs be correct too or not at all? |
Re: Cakecrumbs, cake-crumbs or cake crumbs? All fine - though I think in this case the hyphen might be less likely. But with compounds like this there are no hard and fast rules except where there's a clear difference in meaning - eg between a blackbird and a black bird. The second is not a compound but an ordinary description and to avoid confusion, "blackbird" is always written as one word. |
Re: Cakecrumbs, cake-crumbs or cake crumbs? Many thanks Susan! I was very confused as they all sounded good, but now it makes more sense ;) |
