Sanirang Alpine Networks Ice Climbing School runs for three weeks straight every Saturday. The first session begins January 8th to the 22nd. The first session will meet off Line #4 at Suyu Station's Exit #8 at 7:30am for the first meeting. All the consequent meetings will be arranged according to the following session's location. All are welcome to join.
Throughout the course,‚ clients will learn basic ice climbing skills on low ...grade and high grade ice slopes. Applied winter clothing systems‚ ice safety‚ knots‚ top-rope belaying‚ abseiling and other applied techniques exclusive to winter climbing conditions will be learned. Clients will also learn various French techniques‚ N-Body‚ X-Body and other useful ice climbing skills throughout.
This a good opportunity for beginners and intermediate ice climbers alike because this course covers such a wide range of skills on various grades of ice from gentle to vertical sections all on natural ice falls. The course progreses in an organized and timely fashion under the professional supervision of our instructors. A new and different location will be chosen for each outing‚ giving clients a fuller comprehension and appreciation for ice climbing in Korea.
The final session finishes off with a day trip to the outskirts of the northern GyeongGi Province for a three pitch climb up a natural ice fall topped off with plenty of top-roping to finish off the day!
After every climbing session‚ all are welcome to join together for delicious Korean food and beer. This is an excellent opportunity to get acquainted with Korean climbing culture and making friends with your instructors and fellow climbing students. Warm your winter up. Gear is not provided free of charge. Gear maybe rented for an additional 5,000KRW per piece of gear per outing or 25,000KRW for everything per outing. We encourage you to bring out your own gear if you have it!
The basic neccessary gear includes the following: helmet, harness, plastic boots, crampons, and ice axes and accessory gear set(daisy chain, belay device, and locking carabiners). Gear is only rented out to and for SAN related services or outings.
Location and routes are tentative and subject to change depending on weather conditions‚ climbing traffic and other factors. Clinics are never cancelled; however‚ in the event of deteriorating or very poor weather conditions, sessions will be held at the nearby indoor KOLON Indoor Ice Climbing facility.
The ice climbing course is 350‚000KRW per client. A minimum of four clients is required. The deadline for payment and registration is on Thursday‚ January 6th. A minimum non-refundable deposit of 70‚000KRW is required. For more information on this‚ please contact SAN or visit this link:
