I suggest the first thing you do is give them a simple beginner level test. There are many good sites on the net, I donīt think Iīm allowed to post names here.
You could also try:
- put students in pairs, give a scenario and tell them to have a telephone conversation. Give them 10 mins to prepare, helping them with vocab.
- learn email vocab - ask students and have volunteer write on board, give out copy of a sample email using kind regards etc, get class to write a simple email together with one person writing on board
