Cool First Epistle to the Corinthians

In the First Corinthians, I found a sentence:

I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified.

In another edition, New Living Translation, this sentence has been changed:

I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified.

Is the original translation grammatical?
