I would say that a cloze exercise would only be part of the deal.

Food is a great topic and you can get them really excited about it. You could bring in real food or use powerpoint and a projector to put pictures of big juicy hamburgers and stuff on the screen. Get them to describe the food 'juicy', big', sweet' etc. and then compare the food 'chocolate cake is richer than yoghurt'.

You could finish with an exercise where they write ten or so comparative sentences then read them out.

If you had a free theme, what I usually do is a travel agent dialogue where the customer has to choose between a holiday to Brazil or Japan. The students can even research the two countries a bit before the lesson.
