If you create something, you automatically have the copyright to that something. You can grant your school permission (kind of like a license) to re-use what you have produced or you could sell them the complete rights (you lose your copyright) to the materials.

That's my understanding of copyright. You should definitely take a look at this issue in more depth if you really want to protect your work.
