Default Re: How can I Make my ESL Students Speak Louder?

hi there,

I haven't been around eslhq for a while, but i just dropped by and just had to reply to this post. I use this technique with young learners (students under 18, really).
Talk in the same manner as the student (quite, loud or whatever). Then change you voice (maybe to high pitched - encourage the student to mimic you) have fun with this and eventually get them to mimic you speaking at a volume level that you are after.

Another thing i've done is just pretend that i hear the student(s), making them speak louder. Once i left the classroom and insisted that i would come back in until i could "hear" the class... that made them pretty loud...
